“Despite whatever setbacks you may encounter, continue to persevere and pursue your dreams,” says Lincoln Deal II, a young entrepreneur who knows all too well about setbacks. Deal’s dream to launch Jetlink Adventures Bahamas began in earnest in May 2013. Now, almost three years later, Deal says that he is “grateful and humbled” by the fact that his dream has finally become a reality.
JetLink Adventures is a 100 per cent Bahamian owned full-service water sports activity company in the Bahamas, dedicated to creating extreme fun “fly-over-water” experiences for its clients. “Our core values allow us to focus on security and provide state-of-the-art equipment, certified trainers, top class service; and overall life-changing experiences. As the pioneers of hydro-jet products in the Bahamas, our products range from the hydro-jetpacks, Jetlev, flyboard and blade. Our packages include rental, private events, yacht tours, membership packages, night shows, frequent flyer specials, commercials, movie productions and much more. We also offer group rates, and special local rates,” says Deal.
The company is set for an official launch the first week in January 2016. Deal says that the company kicked-off its marketing campaign about a week ago and the response thus far has been “overwhelming”.
“I’m simply humbled, honored and grateful that the dream has become a reality. We began this process in May of 2013. We never gave up and it shows that despite the obstacles and the setbacks we persevered and stuck with it. We believed in the product and we believe that this would do well in the tourism sector and enhance our tourism offering,” says Deal, a former Junior Minister of Tourism.
“Tourism is the Bahamas’ number one industry, however in order for The Bahamas to compete globally or even regionally we must remain on the cutting edge. The constant cry from persons visiting our shores is the lack of activities and adventures. Innovation and technology isn’t something we should run away from, but something we must embrace as a destination.” JetLink Adventures currently employs five people. “We have certified jetpack instructors that were trained internationally to be hydro-jetpack pilots. The training course is complete now and we have three pilots. The other persons would be for booking and reservations, liaising with the hotels and cruise ships. We started our marketing campaign about a week ago and so far we have gotten over 100,000 views on our commercial video that was produced locally by Lavardo Stubbs of Conchboy Films. We worked with Sky High Media, Scharad Lightbourne, and many more. It was a great production team. If you check our Facebook page the response from locals has been overwhelming, more than we expected. Bahamians love something new. We’re excited. We are packaging a special local rate and a special local group rate to make it more attractive and we are also throwing in a complimentary shoot and video package so people can post it to their various social media platforms,” says Deal.
“Currently we are operating at Goodman’s Bay. I think we will utilize that site for a while. It’s good for parking and it’s a good public beach,” says Deal.
He added: “We are fully insured, and all of our staff are internationally certified jetpack Instructors. With our state-of-the-art training process, which utilizes instructor throttle control, walkie-talkie helmets for in-flight communication and a 3-to-1 staff-to-pilot ratio, jetpacking is actually safer than many other watersports activities, where there is little to no training or instructor supervision. All participants must sign our liability waiver before flying. Aside from the certified trainers, our products are successfully used globally and have been fully endorsed by the United States Coast Guard since 2009. The safety record is described as “impeccable”, no experience necessary.”
Deal said that the Bahamas Entrepreneurial Venture Fund (BEVF) has provided funding for the business. “From day one they fully endorsed it. They believed in the project and that it could be good for the tourism sector. People are looking for something new, something fresh. This was definitely something the Venture Fund believed in. They also believed in me as a young entrepreneur. Beyond the product I believe they want to see young Bahamians succeed and that really meant a lot to me personally,” says Deal.
“As a responsible corporate company, The JetLink Adventures team has vowed to donate a percentage of every flight to the Cancer Society of the Bahamas. We have dubbed the campaign: “FLY for the cure”. Additionally, JetLink Adventures is also introducing the “HashtagLunchBag” program to the Bahamas. The program #HashtagLunchbag is a humanity service movement dedicated to empowering and inspiring humanity to reap the benefits of giving through the use of social media. We create and use bagged lunches, complete with love messages, as a vessel to spread this love and share our experiences to inspire others. “
“Overall, despite the time it took to get the business off the ground, I am humbled, honored and grateful to God to see the dream I had in 2012/2013, become a reality.
